The short version

  • The block drew 32 police calls from March 11 to July 4, about 2 a week, and 95 from July 5 to September 6, about 10 a week.
  • Of the 95, 47 were about a suspicious person or vehicle and 45 were disturbances. The block has had one fight call since March and no shooting, stabbing or robbery call.
  • A call is what someone reported, not what officers found. The Ledger has not yet asked anyone why the calls rose.

The city publishes a feed of police calls. The Ledger keeps a copy and watches for blocks that break their own pattern. This one broke in July.

Nearly all of it is two kinds of call. Of the 95, 47 were about a suspicious person or vehicle and 45 were disturbances.

Since July 5, the calls have come at all times of day and on every day of the week. The block has had one fight call since March, on March 29, and no shooting, stabbing or robbery call.

What we do not know

A call is what someone reported, not what officers found. The feed does not say who called or what changed in July. It places calls on a block, not at an address.

The block is in APD’s Foothills Area Command. The Ledger has not yet asked the owners of the lots on the street or the command. Any answer, or none, will be added here with the date.

The calls map shows the block.

Read next Dispatch watch This year, no. Burqueños called police about as often as any other week. But at night, police stops dropped by two-thirds. 2 min read
