Terms of use

Last updated October 15, 2026.

These terms cover dukecityledger.com, published by the Duke City Ledger in Albuquerque, New Mexico. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. Our privacy policy is part of these terms.

Our work

Stories, charts, illustrations, data pages and the site's design belong to the Duke City Ledger unless a credit says otherwise, and are protected by copyright. "Duke City Ledger" and its logo are ours too. You may quote short excerpts with credit to the Duke City Ledger and a link to the original story. To republish a whole story or chart, ask us first. Meeting summaries are the exception: anyone may republish one in full, free, with credit to the Duke City Ledger, a link to the summary and its note that AI wrote it. Photos on them belong to whoever the credit names. Cite the Ledger has the details.

Photographs and other credited material belong to the people and organizations named in the credit, under their own licenses. Check the credit before reusing them.

What you may not do

  • Try to disrupt the site, get around its security, or reach parts of it that are not public.
  • Scrape or download the site in bulk with a bot or script, or in a way that slows it for other readers.
  • Use our work to train or improve an artificial intelligence model without our written permission.
  • Republish our work in a way that changes its meaning, or suggest we endorse you or your product.

The data pages link to the public sources they use, which are the better place to get the data in bulk.

Public data

Data pages are built from public records published by government agencies. The figures are shown as those agencies published them, and agencies sometimes correct or remove records. Do not rely on them for emergencies, legal matters or decisions about safety. For an emergency, call 911.

Comments

Signing up to comment needs a confirmed email, not the editor's approval. You agree to these terms and the privacy policy when you sign up. You must be 13 or older.

  • A comment is your own words, not the Ledger's, and you're responsible for what you post.
  • You keep the rights to what you write. By posting, you give the Duke City Ledger a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish and display your comment, with your display name, on the site.
  • Civil disagreement and sharp criticism of officials and institutions for their public acts go up right away.
  • Spam, slurs, threats and sexual content are turned away. Don't pretend to be someone else, post private information or anything illegal.
  • An AI model screens every comment and display name. It posts clear ones and holds for the editor anything that accuses a named person or body of wrongdoing, names a private person, shares non-public information, contains a link, or tries to steer the model. If the model errors, times out or the day's budget runs out, the comment waits for the editor.
  • Limits: about 10 comments a day per account, plain text, 2,000 characters, on stories up to 30 days old.
  • You can delete your own comment any time and report someone else's. A display name is optional and can't be changed once picked.
  • We don't have to publish any comment and we don't edit them. The editor can hold or remove any comment, close any account and ban one that breaks these terms. A banned email address can't sign up again unless the ban is lifted; a closed account that wasn't banned can.

Tips and messages

The site takes no submissions. If you send us a tip, a document or a photo by email, Signal or social media, you let us use it to report and publish, and you tell us you have the right to share it. We credit or protect the sender as our editorial standards and privacy policy describe.

Copyright complaints

If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, email editor@dukecityledger.com with what the work is, where it appears on the site, how to reach you, and a statement that you own the work or are authorized to act for the owner. We will look into it promptly, and if the complaint holds up we will take the material down or get permission to use it.

Accuracy and corrections

We work to get every fact right and fix mistakes openly, as the editorial standards describe. To report an error, use the tip page or email us.

Links to other sites

Stories link to the documents and reporting they rely on, and some pages load maps, weather and listings from other services. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what they publish or how they handle your information.

No warranties

The site is provided as it is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty that it is accurate, complete, uninterrupted or fit for a particular purpose. Nothing on the site is legal, financial, medical or other professional advice.

Limit on liability

To the extent the law allows, the Duke City Ledger and the people who work on it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits or data, that comes from using or being unable to use the site, even if we were told it could happen. Our total liability for any claim about the site is limited to $100. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

Law and courts

These terms are governed by the laws of New Mexico, without regard to its rules on conflicts of law. Any dispute about them or the site will be heard in the state or federal courts in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, and you agree to those courts' jurisdiction.

The rest

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a part of them, we have not given it up. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the site. We may update them; the date at the top changes when we do, and using the site after a change means you accept it.
